Fractional CMO – Regional Theatre (2-Month Consulting Project)
Seeking a Fractional CMO for a 2-month consulting role at a regional theatre in Victoria. Lead marketing strategy & audience growth. Remote with one visit.
Job Description
- Location: Remote (with one in-person visit to Regional Victoria)
- Commitment: 2-3 days per week
- Duration: March – April 2025
- Salary: Budget on Application
A regional theatre in Victoria is seeking a Fractional Chief Marketing Officer (CMO) for a short-term consulting project to develop and implement a strategic marketing plan. This is an opportunity to lead the marketing transformation of a theatre that is re-establishing itself after nearly a decade of limited operations.
About the Role:
The theatre, part of a regional council, is working to increase visibility, improve audience engagement, and establish strong digital marketing foundations. With a small operational team managing day-to-day activities, external expertise is needed to design a structured marketing approach, develop sustainable processes, and support long-term audience growth.
This role is strategy-focused but also requires hands-on guidance to ensure execution, including marketing workflows, content planning, and coordination with designers and contractors.
Key Responsibilities:
- Develop a comprehensive marketing strategy and audience segmentation plan.
- Establish a social media content calendar and templates for future use.
- Guide the development of a standalone website, separate from the council’s main site.
- Support the transition to Humanitix for improved ticketing integration.
- Implement marketing processes that enable the small in-house team to operate effectively.
- Work within council approval processes while implementing modern marketing solutions.
- Conduct weekly or fortnightly check-ins with the theatre team.
Who Should Apply?
- Senior marketing professionals with experience in arts, entertainment, or cultural organisations.
- Expertise in digital marketing, audience development, and brand positioning.
- Strong strategic vision with the ability to create practical, executable marketing workflows.
- Experience working within government or council environments is a plus.
- Comfortable working remotely, with flexibility for one in-person visit to regional Victoria (travel expenses covered).
- Available from 1st March for 2-3 days per week over two months.
Additional Details:
- The theatre team prefers a hands-off management approach, so the ability to work independently and oversee external contractors (e.g., designers) is essential.
This is a unique opportunity for a marketing leader passionate about the arts, audience engagement, and strategic brand development. Be part of a transformational project that will bring a historic theatre back to life.
