Fractional Marketing Lead – Luxury Travel Club Startup
OpenA Gold Coast founder needs a fractional marketer to shape the strategy and personally run the direct mail and email campaigns for a members-only luxury travel club.
The opportunity
A Gold Coast founder has built a members-only luxury travel club for owners of high-value homes (A$2.4M+, or A$2.85M+ in Sydney). Members exchange homes using points instead of paying nightly rates: you earn points when others stay at your home and spend them when you travel. Think private travel club, not holiday-rental marketplace. The platform is built. The website sits behind a holding page while the founder recruits a hand-picked group of founding members – 10 lifetime memberships in each of Gold Coast, Sunshine Coast, Brisbane, Sydney and Melbourne – before opening to the public. The founder is a business and technical operator, not a marketer. Letterbox drops into premium suburbs and Mailchimp email automations are already running, but response rates are low. He wants a hands-on marketer to review what's been done, fix it, and then grow the business with him
Read this first: it's a startup
• Pre-revenue with a handful of members. The founder isn't expecting revenue for at least six months.
• Startup budgets. You need to make every dollar work – this is not an agency-scale spend.
• Strategy and hands-on delivery. You'll set the plan and then be inside Mailchimp building and fixing automations yourself – there's no one else to hand it to until the business gets going.
• No social media at launch. This is a deliberately low-profile, direct-targeting play.
• The business name stays confidential until the shortlist stage.
What the work looks like
Stage 1 – Audit (approx. 2–3 hours)
• Review letterbox drop creative, offer, targeting and tracking
• Review Mailchimp setup: lists, segments, automations and email content
• Review the website and sign-up path
• Deliver a short, prioritised list of what to fix first
Stage 2 – Growth plan
• A practical plan to fill 50 founding memberships across five cities, then move to paid membership
• The right channel mix for reaching high-net-worth homeowners – direct mail, email, referrals and partnerships
Stage 3 – Ongoing implementation
• Run the campaigns: mail drops, email sequences, testing and simple reporting
• A long-term working relationship as the business grows
Must-haves
• Hands-on Mailchimp experience building automated journeys – triggers, tags, segmentation and A/B testing. Strong Klaviyo, ActiveCampaign or HubSpot experience is fine if you can work confidently in Mailchimp from day one.
• Direct mail / letterbox campaigns with measurable response – offer, copy, targeting and tracking (QR codes, unique URLs, offer codes).
• Experience working with startups or small businesses on lean budgets.
• Copywriting that lands with an affluent, discerning audience.
• Comfortable working closely and directly with a founder.
