Job Description
- Location: Melbourne
- Role: Fractional Chief Marketing Officer
- Hours: Part-time / Project-Based
- Salary Range: Competitive day rate, dependent on experience
About the Company
A Melbourne-based ecommerce business selling car accessories across Australia and New Zealand is seeking an experienced Fractional CMO to guide its next stage of growth. With an annual turnover of $15M and a team of eight, the business has established strong digital performance - particularly in organic search - supported by a technically capable internal digital team.
The company is now facing increased competition and pricing pressures and is exploring expansion into brand and traditional marketing channels. A seasoned marketing leader is required to provide strategic oversight, strengthen communication across the team and support the transition toward a more holistic marketing approach.
The Opportunity
This is a strategic leadership role ideal for a marketing expert who can balance digital performance with traditional brand-building. The engagement begins with an intensive three-month strategy and review period, followed by an ongoing monthly retainer.
The business prefers regular face-to-face collaboration, so the candidate must be Melbourne-based.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead a full marketing strategy review spanning digital channels, brand direction, customer journey and market positioning.
- Provide clear recommendations for performance marketing, organic search, brand development and traditional media opportunities.
- Guide and optimise paid and organic search activities, with strong focus on MER, ROAS and conversion optimisation.
- Mentor and support a technically skilled but early-career digital marketing lead.
- Act as a communication bridge between leadership and junior marketing staff.
- Assist in navigating competitive pressures and developing a sustainable brand presence across AU/NZ.
- Establish an ongoing advisory cadence aligned with monthly retainer arrangements.
About You
- Based in Melbourne and available for regular in-person meetings.
- Ideally with a strong background in both digital and traditional marketing.
- Skilled in ecommerce performance metrics including MER, ROAS, AOV and conversion optimisation.
- Confident leading, advising and mentoring junior or mid-level marketing talent.
- Able to translate complex marketing insights into clear strategic direction.
- Flexible with approach and packaging to suit business needs.
Why This Role
- Opportunity to create meaningful impact within a fast-moving ecommerce brand.
- Direct involvement in shaping strategy and elevating both digital and traditional marketing efforts.
- Chance to guide a technically strong team while strengthening broader brand direction.
- Long-term advisory potential following the initial three-month project.
- Perfect for a senior marketing professional seeking flexible, hands-on fractional work with a Melbourne-based business.
